Propecia
Propecia (Finasteride) is the only drug for the treatment of certain types of male pattern hair loss (MPHL) in men approved by the FDA. Propecia reduces DHT (dihydrotesterone), which is the main factor of hair loss in men.
The mechanism of action of the drug is that it prevents the process of testosterone converting to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a substance in the body that can shrink the hair follicle until it no longer produces visible hair. Scientists proved that DHT and family history are key factors in hair loss. The drug significantly reduces DHT, by inhibiting the formation of DHT in the scalp. Propecia blocks the formation of DHT and interrupts the development of male pattern hair loss. It helps reduce further hair loss and make visible hair grow again.
Propecia is a drug to treat male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of head) and the anterior mid-scalp area (middle front of head). Male pattern hair loss (MPHL) is a common condition when a male has thinning of the hair on the scalp, which can result in a receding hairline and balding on the top of the head.
Propecia is for use by male only and should not be used by female or children.
